What Our Volunteers Do:Family Friends volunteers are people who care about children, who have raised their own children with special needs, raised their own grandchildren, or who have worked with children and families in their professional life. Family Friends volunteers are ready to share their time and wisdom to make life a little easier for children and families in their community. Family Friends volunteers are adults age 50 and older who want to be involved in a way that will make a difference. They want to give back to their community by reaching out to children and families with special needs. Volunteers choose between a range of Family Friends activities and projects - depending on the time they have to give, how and where they want to spend their time. Give 2 hours each week… You can spend your time visiting the home of a family raising a child with special needs. As a Family Friend volunteer, you might play games, do arts and crafts, help with homework, take a walk, visit the library, listen and talk together, share a hobby, teach a song, read a story, give encouragement, share a hug, be a friend. Volunteer as a team… Spend a Saturday and join other Family Friend volunteers and staff to provide a day of fun for a group of children and young teens. Together we enjoy outings like bowling and arcade games, movies and lunch, live dance or theater performances, museums, and roller skating. Play a little… with other Family Friends volunteers at a community center providing activities for a small group of young children while their caregivers meet together for discussion groups and workshops. Share your skills… Family Friends volunteers are involved in special event planning, training and public speaking, outreach and marketing projects, advocacy and community resource linkage. |
