Family Friends of Philadelphia

Family Friends is an innovative family support program that reaches out to families with special needs who live in Philadelphia. The families who participate in Family Friends are parents raising children with developmental disabilities and other special needs, and grandparents and other relatives who are raising children. Our team of dedicated social workers and older adult volunteers work together to provide support to families and children -- in their homes and in the community.

Family Friends is an intergenerational program that connects older adults who have experience, wisdom and time to share with children and families who may be feeling overwhelmed and isolated. Our volunteers are recruited from the neighborhoods in which families live, are carefully screened, trained, and matched with compatible families. Family Friend volunteers spend time each week with children so that their parents and grandparents can take a break. We help to build relationships and friendships that will last.
